On receipt of these notifications, visits to the homes are made
by the School Nurses to ensure that proper treatment is being
provided and the necessary precautions taken in each case.
TUBERCULOSIS.
Table VII in the Appendix shows that the number of new cases
of tuberculosis coming to the knowledge of the Health Department
during the year was 71, 62 pulmonary and 9 non-pulmonary. Of
these, 66 were notified by doctors practising in the district or from
hospital, while five were cases transferred from other districts.
The number of notifications received in the previous year was 59.
32 deaths were certified as due to tuberculosis, as compared
with 41 for the previous year. Of these, 26 were due to pulmonary
and 6 to non-pulmonary disease. The death rate from tuberculosis
was 0.59 per 1,000 of population, as compared with 0.75 in 1932.
Of the 32 deaths which occurred, 5 were in persons who had
not previously been notified as cases of tuberculosis in this district.

The arrangements for providing treatment for sufferers from tuberculosis are in the hands of the County Council, and Dr. J. R. Dobson, the Tuberculosis Officer has kindly supplied me with the following figures relating to cases from Wood Green which came under his care during the year:—
