DEATHS.
The number of deaths belonging to Wood Green, after making
the necessary adjustments for inward and outward transfers, was
565, 276 male and 289 female. This represents a Death Rate of
10.4 per 1,000 of population, which is slightly higher than that
for the previous year, which was 10.1. This Death Rate of 10.4
compares favourably with that for the country as a whole, which
was 12.3, and that for the 118 great towns, which was 12.2.
Of the total deaths, 294, or 52 per cent., occurred in persons
over 65 years of age. The corresponding percentage for 1932 was
49.
The distribution of deaths over the year was as follows:—First
quarter, 180; second, 136; third, 108; and fourth, 141; the
heaviest mortality being, as usual, in the first quarter of the year,
and the lowest in the third.
Table III in the Appendix gives the causes of all deaths occurring
in Wood Green during the year, and Table IV shows the deaths
distributed both according to cause of death and age at death. The
former table is supplied by the Registrar-General, while the latter
has been compiled in the Health Department. It will be seen from
Table III that, as in previous years, heart disease is the commonest
