There were 51 deaths of children under one year, which corresponds
to a rate of 68 for every 1,000 births, against 39 deaths or a
rate of 56.43 last year. The rate for the whole of England and Wales
was 89 (90 in smaller towns, i.e., with census population of 20,000
to 50,000).
The deaths of children under five years was 67, which corresponds
to a rate of 1.13 per 1,000 of the general population, against
73, or a rate of 1.52 per 1,000 in 1918.
