Smallpox and Typhus Fever.
No cases of Smallpox or Typhus Fever have been notified
during the year.
Acute Anterior Poliomyelitis.
One case of Poliomyelitis was reported from the Central Ward,
a boy aged 8 years. Had not been attending school for about three
months, being delicate; was first noticed with severe cold and
headache; a few days afterwards his right arm was found to be
paralysed, when he was taken to see a medical practitioner, who
advised his removal to St. Bartholomew's Hospital, where the
disease was diagnosed.
There was absolutely no history of infection; the boy had not
been away from home, and there were no known cases in the District.
The patient has made a good recovery, his arms being slightly
affected, which the hospital authorities are of the opinion will be
all right in time, with treatment.
