An average weekly payment of £67 2s. 8½d.
The average cost per patient was £14 0s. 4¾d.
During this year the Committee decided that, before a patient
could be admitted to the Isolation Hospital, an agreement must be
signed to pay a proportion of the expense incurred in Maintenance
(except in pauper cases).
This, of course, causes delay in the removal of patients to the
Hospital, and the onus of fixing the amount to be paid is placed
upon the Chief Inspector, a duty which turns that official into a
kind of relieving officer, and was never contemplated, in my opinion,
