POPULATION.
The total number of completed houses in December, 1907, was
9,502. Allowing 7 per cent. for empty houses, and calculating 5.66
persons to each occupied house, the Population at the end of the
year would be 50,017.
By a similar calculation, the Population in December, 1906, was
48,047.
The mean of these numbers—49,034—would represent the
Population in June, 1907, and I have taken 49,000 as the average
Population of the District for the present Report.
BIRTHS.
1,449 Births were registered during the year, 771 boys and 678
girls, which correspond to an annual rate of 29.57 per 1,000 of the
population.
