The business in the Workshops of your District are principally
Dressmaking and Millinery.
It has not been necessary to take any legal proceedings during
the year with respect to any of the above premises, in two cases it
was found necessary to report to the Council the air of the workrooms
being vitiated by gas stoves, but upon receipt of Notices,
in one case the open fire place was substituted instead of the gas
stove, and in the other, the gas stove was placed in such a position
as not to vitiate the atmosphere of the workroom.
Several matters (such as dirty walls, &c.) have been dealt with
by the occupiers, upon having their attention called to the necessity
for such cleansing.
There is one underground Bakehouse in the District, which waS
certified by the Council on the 29th June, 1904, having complied
with the Council's requirements.
The Coffee Houses have also been inspected, the cleanliness of
the kitchens and utensils receiving special attention. In two cases it
was found necessary to ask the occupiers to thoroughly cleanse the
kitchen walls and ceilings.
