An additional vehicle should be added as a spare in the event of accident or breakdown or
overhauling or to pick up arrears accumulating from bad weather or other emergencies.
The House Refuse would be shot into barges at a Wharf in Paddington (Harrow Road) and
another at Lower Place.
The estimated capital cost is £21,942. The estimated annual cost is £20,609 1s. 1d. as shown
on the detailed estimates, which follow : —
Hours of work per day = 9
Hours of work per week = 51
Tons of house refuse to be lifted by one Filler per day of 9 hours = 3.4
(b) By Horse-drawn Vehicles.
The same quantity of refuse as above has to be collected. Adopting a horse-drawn Dust Van
of a capacity of 6 cube yards equal to 1.94 tons means that 19 vehicles—11 to do 2 loads a day and
8 to do 3 loads a day—will remove per day 46-loads with a total cubic capacity of 276 cube yards,
or 89.5 tons in one day equal to 77,004 cube yards or 24,970 tons in 279 working days or one year.
Three additional Vehicles and Horses should be added as spares.
The house refuse would be shot into barges at Paddington and Lower Place as above.
The estimated Capital Cost is £8,532. The estimated Annual Cost is £20,839 8s. 6d. as shown
on the detailed estimates which follow :—
Hours of work per day = 9
Hours of work per week = 51
Tons of house refuse to be lifted by one Filler per day of 9 hours = 2.6 (average)
(Filler doing 2 loads = 1.94. Filler doing 3 loads = 2.90).
By Contractor.
On the same basis as above (i.e., assuming that wages and other costs remain as at present)
the present Contractor's prices for next year must be increased by the additional cost of a shoot
outside Willesden. Benton was prepared to let his Shoot to the Council at 6d. per cube yard, equivalent
to 1s. 6½d. per ton. Sabey's tender for the removal by Canal is 5s. 6d. per ton. The difference
in cost between this price and the price of Benton's Shoot will therefore have to be added
to next year's contract prices, i.e., 4s. per ton or a total of £4,938 for 24,691 tons, thus increasing the
contract price of £17,250 for the year 1919-20 to £22,188 for the year 1920-21.
