Administrative Action With Regard to Tuberculosis—Visitation.—On
receipt of the notification of a
case of tuberculosis, a Health Visitor visits the house. During
the year the Health Visitors paid 431 primary visits and
1,855 subsequent visits, making a total of visits and revisits
of 2,286.
The Health Visitor makes enquiries as to home conditions,
history and condition of the patient and state of
health of contacts. At the same time she gives and explains
a pamphlet of directions intended to aid the patient in combating
the disease, and to prevent its spread to other members
of the community.
She revisits the house as may be necessary.
If enquiries with regard to the contacts suggest that
any of them may be suffering from tuberculosis, they are
requested to attend their own doctor or the Middlesex Tuberculosis
Dispensary, in order that they may be examined.
When a tuberculosis patient dies or removes, disinfection
of his room is carried out if considered necessary.
Bacteriological examination of sputum is carried out free of
charge at the Council's laboratory.
Bacteriological testing of milk and veterinary inspection
of cows is also carried out.
Enamelled plates are provided and fixed in factories
giving information about consumption and its prevention.
