nutrition of the parent, and especially in cases of first pregnancy
to want of knowledge. If, therefore, steps are to
be taken to prevent this wastage of infant life and at the
same time the suffering and permanent injury which occurs
to many women as a result of mis-carriages and still births,
facilities require to be provided for the feeding, nourishment,
supervision and instruction of expectant mothers.
In connection with the question of natal conditions, the
following table gives the number of deaths due to Puerperal
Fever and other accidents and diseases of Pregnancy and
Parturition occurring in each year since 1909.

Post-natal Conditions.
The following table shows the total deaths of children
under one year of age, between one and five, and between
five and fifteen, together with the total deaths at all ages
which have occurred in this district in each year since 1909,
together with the deaths from certain specified causes:—
