The Board of Education have continued their grant in
respect of Furness Road Physically Defective School, on
the understanding that a scheme for an open-air school will
be proceeded with, and the Education Committee have under
consideration the erection of a suitable school on the lines
stated in Appendix K. One of 'the Assistant Medical
Officers visits this school once a fortnight. Each child is
examined by him once a year, and a record of the examination
is kept. In addition, children referred by the Head
Teacher are examined as occasion arises.
Need for an Open-Air School.—The best and most
advantageous arrangements which can be made in respect
of these children were fully discussed by me in a special
report to the Education Committee, which appears in
Appendix I. of the Report for 1912.
Of the 121 children on the roll and on the waiting list
of Furness Road Special School there are 32 children suffering
from Tuberculosis.
