It should also be noted that the cost of administration
in the case of the 36 part-time Officers is considerable, any
directions which require to be issued having to be dictated,
cyclostyled and posted with, in addition, in some cases, personal
explanations or further correspondence. Such instructions
to whole-time assistants would be verbally and quickly
communicated, and points of difficulty arising would be personally
settled.
(5) Re-organisation of School Attendance Department.
The work of the School Attendance Officer may be
classified as follows :—
(i) School Attendance.
(a) Visiting- the schools to obtain the records of
the children's attendances.
(b) Visiting the homes to ascertain the reasons for
non-attendance.
(c) Attending Attendance Committee Meetings.
(d) Attending Court.
(ii) School Meals.
(a) Visiting the homes to enquire into the social
circumstances of children requiring school
meals.
(iii) Accommodation.
(a) Inspecting the application for admission
registers at the schools.
(b) Preparing and revising from time to time the
"fair schedule," which should contain the
names of all children who ought to be attending
public elementary schools in Willesden.
(c) Keeping records of attendances of London
children in Willesden schools and of Willesden
children in London schools.
