Since the end of 1912, one Health Visitor has been
appointed for ringworm purposes, so that the number now
to be added with the existing system can be reduced to
three. But even with this staff it will be seen that a rearrangement
of the days of attendance of the 36 part-time
Assistant School Medical Officers would be necessary,
especially as Fridays are not usually available for school
medical inspections, owing to school arrangements.
The following would be the cost of thiis system for purposes
of comparison :—
Salaries of 36 part-time assistant school medical officers
for year ending June, 1912 956 6
Salaries of 3 additional health visitors 7,3240 —£414
d1280 6
* The figure for the year ending December, 1913, is estimated by the
Accountant at ^995 8s. iod. The increase is due to the greater number of
children on the roll for which payment is made to the assistant school medical
officers at ihe rate of iod. per scholar.
(b)—Whole-Time.—With regard to the system of
employing two whole-time assistant school medical officers, as
suggested by the Board, it will be necessary to add two
health visitors.
