Diseases of The Ear.βThe results of observations
made in the course of medical inspection are classified in
the following Table, No. 102:β
Table No. 102.
Boys. | Girls. | |
---|---|---|
No. of observations | 4826 | 4517 |
No. with "running" ears | 56 = 1.2 per cent. | 48 = 1.1 per cent. |
No. with other diseases of the ear | 10 = 0.2 ,, ,, | 7 = 0.2 β β |
It may be said that the 104 children or 1.12 per cent. of
the children examined, found to have "running" ears are
in very imminent danger of becoming permanently deaf.
The handicap which a deaf child or person suffers in the
race for employment is enormous, and early treatment for
these cases is imperative if the child is to have the best
chance in after life of earning its living.
