there is a considerable increase in deaths from Measles, Whooping
Cough, and Pulmonary Affections. Nevertheless the increase in
deaths directly attributed to Measles and Whooping Cough has not
been sufficient to compensate for the saving in deaths from Diarrhoea
and the Zymotic death rate, 1.5 per 1,000, is the lowest hitherto
recorded.
The great increase in deaths from Pulmonary Affections, is, however,
largely to be set down to the prevalence of Measles and
Whooping Cough. As I have repeatedly pointed out when Measles
and Whooping Cough prevail, many children dying of these affections
have their deaths attributed to the pulmonary complications to which
they give rise.
