BIRTHS.
The Birth Rate for the year is the lowest recorded for Willesden,
although in 1890 it fell to the same level.
The rate, 29 4 per 1,000 persons living, is higher than the corresponding
rate for England and Wales. When, however, the rate is
calculated on the number of women between 15 and 45 years of age—
approximately the procreative age period of women—it is found that
the rate for Willesden falls considerably below that of England and
Wales.
So rapidly in fact has it fallen that if the age distribution of the female population has not varied from that of the census, Willesden has now a much lower birth rate in proportion to the number of women of procreative age than has England and Wales.
