SEWAGE DISPOSAL.
As stated in previous Reports, the Sewage of the Metropolitan
area drains into the London County Council sewers, while that of
the Brent area is treated at the sewage works situated in the extreme
west of the district, north of the Harrow-road. It has for some years
been obvious that sewage works dealing with the sewage of so large
a population as that of the Brent area, situated in the midst of what
is rapidly becoming a densely populated district, could not be continued
indefinitely without grave menace to the public health. Apart,
from the fact that large sums of money have from time to time had
to be spent to equip the works for dealing with the increasing volume
of sewage, it was clear that no final settlement of the problem was
possible on the existing site.

settlement of one of the most difficult sanitary problems of the
district.

were registered as a Common Lodging House. In addition to complying
with the bye-laws of the Council the premises were adapted
so as to meet the requirements of the Public Health Committee in
