The tentative conclusions expressed in my last
report are generally confirmed by a wider experience
of the use of Antitoxin. Early injection is of the first
importance. After the onset of the disease the interval
to the time of injection is pregnant with fate for the
victim of Diphtheria.
Of 20 cases injected on the first day of disease
none died. Of 60 injected on the second day, only 2
died. Early injection lessens the spread and duration
of the membrane, and the shorter the duration and
lesser the extent of membrane, the greater is the
prospect of recovery.
