NOTIFICATIONS.
These are required under the Local Act of
1887, and came into operation in October of that
year. The infectious diseases requiring to be notified
are diphtheria, cholera, typhus fever, typhoid
fever, relapsing, continued and puerperal fevers,
scarlet fever, small pox, membranous croup and
erysipelas.
The total number of notifications has been more
than last year, but only slightly so in poportion to
the population, 815 were received, giving an average
of 9.5 per 1,000, last year it was 9.3.
The amount paid to medical men for certificates
of notification was £94 5s. 6d., and the cost of
disinfecting rooms after infectious diseases was
£139 10s. 0d.
