IV. Deaths.
#
The total number of Deaths at all ages belonging to the district was 129.
This gives a rate of 11.3 per thousand persons living. The estimated population
for the calculation of the Death-rate was 11,410.
The actual number of Deaths occurring in the Urban District was 85; 44
deaths belonging to the District occurred outside the area, in such places as the
Poor Law Institutions, Asylums, and various London Hospitals.
This year Congenital Debility heads the list of causes of Death with 15 as
against 7 last year. Organic Heart Disease comes next with 14, then Cancer with
10; Pulmonary Tuberculosis was responsible for 10. Bronchitis fell from 18 in
1919 to 7, while Respiratory Diseases of all kinds, excluding Pulmonary Tuberculosis
fell from 29 to 13.
V. Infantile Death Rate.
The number of Deaths under 1 year of age was 25 (of which 4 were
illegitimate children), which gives a rate per thousand births of 83.05. This is an
increase of 2.78 per cent. on last year's Infant Deaths, and is regrettable. There is
probably some connection between this increase and the unusually high number of
deaths from Congenital Debility, but the causes leading to the latter are not clear.
