This accounts for the 100% inspection of Cattle and Cows, shown in the
following table, and the lower percentage of inspection for Calves.
However, good co-operation exists between your inspectors and the owner and
his slaughtermen who retain for our inspection on the following day any carcase
presenting signs of disease or injury.
The majority of the condemned meat and offals is taken away by a reputable
firm for manufacture into useful by-products, e.g. fertilisers etc.
Total weight of carcase meat condemned 4,388 lbs.
Total weight of offals condemned 7,649 lbs.

The percentages of animals affected with disease remains steady with the
exception of cows and tuberculosis. Here the decrease has been from 18.82% last
year to 8.28% this year in spite of an increase of over 20% in the number of
animals killed. No doubt this is one of the beneficial effects, now being felt,
