One child developed clinical diphtheria during 1935, after
having been immunised. This child was not seen by a doctor until
the eighth day, and the famliy practitioner himself expressed the
opinion that the child would probably have died had immunisation
not been previously carried out.
The case of a second family is interesting. There were two
children in this family, one immunised and one not immunised.
The immunised child escaped diphtheria although he carried
diphtheria bacilli in his nose. The non-immunised child developed
clinical diphtheria and had to be admitted to hospital.
Typhoid Fever (including Paratyphoid).—Two cases of paratyphoid
B fever were notified during the year. In each case the
infection was traceable to a source outside the district. Both cases
were admitted to hospital and made satisfactory progress. No
cases occurred during 1934.
