SANITARY INSPECTION OF AREA.
The number of inspections carried out during 1934 has once
again shown an increase over those of previous years. It must be
remembered, of course, that many of the visits paid by the new
Health Visitor are included in the lists, while the work carried
out by a workman whose services were obtained temporarily from
the Surveyor's Department, primarily for the purpose of disinfestation,
are also included. There can be no doubt, however, that
the presence of the additional staff has allowed much important
work, hitherto inadequately dealt with, to be more thoroughly
performed. As an example of this, the inspection and supervision
of hairdressers' shops, ice-cream vendors and establishments mainly
employing young women has been regularly and systematically
carried out. The work of disinfestation will be referred to in more
detail later in the Report.
