During the week ended September 29th, when 10 notifications
were received in one day, the resources of the
Isolation Hospital became strained to the utmost, and no
further cases could then be received for a time. Accommodation
for some of these cases was found at the Passmore
Edwards General Hospital in Bounds Green Road, Wood
Green. Meanwhile further temporary accommodation was
being provided by the Southgate Council in a disused school
building belonging to the Council adjoining the site on which
stands the Isolation Hospital. This would have provided for
the accommodation of 20 patients, but, fortunately, it was not
necessary to use this building, as the notifications now
began to diminish in number, whilst the cases first admitted
into the Isolation Hospital were beginning to be discharged,
which made room for the fresh cases as they occurred.
Of the 71 cases in all,
41 were removed to the Isolation Hospital;
14 ,, ,, ,, Enfield Isolation Hospital ;
7 „ „ ,, Passmore Edwards Hospital;
9 remained at home.
(2.) A leaflet was drawn up pointing out the precautions
to be taken to prevent, as far as possible, the spread of
infection, and distributed at every house in the infected area.
