Housing of the Working Classes Act.—One
cottage was closed at Highfield Road, Winchmore Hill.
There are many other old cottages remaining in different
parts of the District which ought to be pulled down, and which
would be condemned except for the fact that there are no better
ones for the occupants to go into if this were done, which clearly
shows the need there is in the District for the erection of sound
healthy cottages at a reasonable rent. Such cottages as are from
time to time demolished are at once replaced by villa and shop
property, so that the necessity for providing suitable dwellings for
the working classes becomes every year more urgent, and I trust
that you will not lose sight of this important matter. As I have
several times urged before, there is no more useful or necessary
measure you could undertake.
Cowsheds, Dairies, Slaughter-houses, and
Bakehouses.—These have been systematically inspected by
the Sanitary Department, and have been kept in a satisfactory
condition, in accordance with the Bye-laws.
Factory and Workshop Act, 1901—The workshops
in the district have been visited, and the sanitary condition,
&c., noted in the register. The lists of outworkers have been
received from the different Authorities, and the houses of such
outworkers were visited and found in a satisfactory condition.
I.—INSPECTION.
