The following information is given with reference to the
unsatisfactory samples -
'Milk: With regard to the five unsatisfactory samples, four were
of hot milk sampled at cafes, the other one being new milk
taken from a firm of dairymen. In the case of the hot milk two
samples were taken from each of two cafes, and were found to
contain added water. Proceedings were authorised against each
proprietor. In one instance a conditional discharge was given
and £3.3.0d. costs awarded the County Council, and in the
second case a fine of £1 plus £1 15.0d. costs was imposed. In
the case of the new milk the sample was found to be deficient
in solids-not-fat, although the presence of added water was not
confirmed.
Further follow-up samples proved genuine and no further
action was taken.
