Scavenging.
Collection of House Refuse.
A weekly collection of House Refuse was carried out
during the year by Fordson tractors and trailers. The refuse
from the whole of the District is conveyed to the destructor
site at Eastcote, where it is sorted, screened, the inflammable
part (paper, etc.), is burnt in the open. This tip is some
distance from any inhabited houses, and no nuisance has
been caused by this method of disposal.
The tip at Northolt Road, Eastcote, is almost full up,
and the Public Health Committee have bee.i considering the
whole question of disposal of house refuse, and the Surveyor
made a report to the Committee in December.
He reported upon the methods of:—
(i) Incineration and Salvage;
(ii) Controlled Tipping.
This report is still under consideration. 1 here are several
sites in this district where controlled tipping could be
carried on quite successfully, and if properly supervised,
should cause no nuisance.
Portable sanitary dustbins are provided and maintained
by the house owners. The removal and disposal of house
refuse has been very satisfactory. No nuisance has been
caused, and only 16 complaints of a trivial nature were
received during the year.
Schools.
All the Schools in the Urban District are under the
management of the Middlesex County Council.
