House Refuse.
The collection of House Refuse is made once per week,
530 Houses are now on the list for collection. The refuse is
at present tipped at the Brickfields at Sand Pit Hill.
Several new houses have been built quite close to these
Brickfields and complaints have been received of a nuisance
caused by the burning of refuse in the brick clamps and from
the plague of flies in the summer time. There is no doubt
a nuisance caused by depositing refuse at this place and other
arrangements must be made.
The disposal of house refuse in a manner not likely to
cause any nuisance is a difficult question and a very importtant
one. The only really satisfactory method is burning in
a Destructor, but the cost of erecting a Destructor is very
considerable. I understand that small portable Destructors
are now made which are efficient, perhaps the use of one of
these might solve the question.
