Complaints.
During the year, 114 complaints were received from residents
and in only two cases was it necessary to take formal action
to secure abatement of the nuisance.
Drainage and Sewerage.
The trunk soil sewerage system is under the control of the
West Kent Main Sewerage Board. Branch main soil sewers and
main surface water sewers have been provided during the year by
the Local Authority as under:—
Private Estate Development—
877 lineal yards of 9" Foul Water Sewer.
863 lineal yards of 6" Foul Water Sewer.
504 lineal yards of 6" Surface Water Sewer.
227 lineal yards of 9" Surface Water Sewer.
116 lineal yards of 12" Surface Water Sewer.
Council Estate Development—
786 lineal yards of 18" Foul Water Sewer.
340 lineal yards of 15" Foul Water Sewer.
Factories Acts 1937 and 1948.
There are 146 factories on the Council's register at the present
time.
Forty visits of inspection were made by the Public Health
Inspectors during the year.
Five defects or contraventions were found and three abated.
The following is a copy of the return relating to the year 1957
which has been supplied to the Minister of Labour and National
