Complaints.
During the year, 207 complaints were received from residents,
but in no case was it necessary to take formal action to secure
abatement of the nuisance.
Drainage and Sewerage.
The trunk soil sewerage system is under the control of the
West Kent Main Sewerage Board. Branch main soil sewers and
main surface water sewers have been provided during the year by
the Local Authority as under:—
Private Estate Development—
1,281 lineal yards of 6" Foul Water Sewer.
691 lineal yards of 9" Foul Water Sewer.
523 lineal yards of 6" Surface Water Sewer.
933 lineal yards of 9" Surface Water Sewer.
Council Estate Development—
138 lineal yards of 6" Foul Water Sewer.
138 lineal yards of 9" Foul Water Sewer.
Factories Acts 1937 and 1948.
There are 157 factories on the Council's register at the present
time.
49 visits of inspection were made by the Public Health
Inspectors during the year.
Seven defects or contraventions were found and six abated.
The following is a copy of the return relating to the year 1956
which has been supplied to the Minister of Labour and National
