At the end of the year, there were one hundred and twenty-eight
premises registered for the sale of ice cream, but none for the manufacture
of this commodity. Ninety inspections were made and
conditions were found to be satisfactory.
Thirty-six samples were sent for bacteriological and pathological
examination. No pathogenic organisms were isolated and the grading
of the samples under the Methylene Blue test for cleanliness showed
that a high standard is being maintained.

The following is an analysis of the results obtained during the past three years:—

Year.No. of Samples taken.Grade I.Grade II.RESULT. Grade III.Grade IV.
1951473665
195241338
195336315

In general, Grades I and II are satisfactory, whilst Grades III and
IV may indicate some defect in manufacture, storing or handling.
Should a result in Grade III or IV be received, investigations are made
and follow-up samples taken.
