It should be noted that there is a fall in the Birth Rate, which fact
is also applicable to other areas.
The average rate for the period 1944-1953, was 17.1.
Illegitimate Births.
There were 35 illegitimate births registered during the year, giving
an illegitimate birth rate of 0.54 per 1,000 total population, and a rate
of 3.7 per 1,000 live and still births.
Stillbirths.
The total number of stillbirths in the area during 1953 was 17,
which gives a stillbirth rate of 18.0 per 1,000 live and stillbirths, and a
rate of 0.26 per 1,000 total population.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths belonging to the Urban District and
registered during the year was 634. Of this number, 328 were males
and 306 females.
The Death Rate for the Urban District for the year is 9.8 per
1,000 total population, and 11.4 for England and Wales.
