HEALTH REPORT FOR 1946.
The population of the District as estimated by the RegistrarGeneral
at mid-year 1946 was 56,640.
VITAL STATISTICS.
Births.—During the year, 1,137 Births were registered as belonging
to the District, of which number 596 were males and 541 were
females. This is equal to a Birth Rate of 20.0 per thousand of population,
as compared with 17.8 last year.
Deaths.—The number of Deaths registered as belonging to the
District was 531 (271 males and 260 females). This is equal to a
Death Rate of 9.3 per thousand of population, as against 10.1 last
year.
Infantile Mortality Rate.—During the year 39 Deaths were
registered as occurring in Infants under one year of age (all being
legitimate births). The Infantile Mortality Rate was equal to 34 per
thousand registered births as compared with 28 last year.
