It will be seen from the results obtained during the baiting
of the public sewers that there remains a heavy rat infestation in
the sewers. In order to reduce the infestation it may be necessary
to treat the sewers more often in future.
In the premises where the source of infestation was not traced,
it is considered that the fault lies in undiscovered drain connections.
Unless further attention is given to sealing off drains when houses
are demolished the trouble is likely to be increased in future years.
HOUSING.
Complaints.
During the year 2,129 complaints were received and
investigated. The nature of the complaints included sanitary
defects in houses, drains choked or defective, premises infested with
vermin, etc.
