Last year 170 secured the 1st Class, and 251 the 2nd Class
Certificate, so that here, as elsewhere, improvement is to be
reported.
BIRTHS.
During the year there were 3209 births, or 111 more than in
1904. Of these 1669 were males and 1540 females.
The Birth Rate is 30.5 compared with 30 07 last year, 32.08 in
1903, and 31.52 in 1902. That for London for 1905 is 27.1.
In the Union Workhouse 179 births occurred, viz., males 88
and females 91.
