The following summary of the inspection work, together with a
report on the various duties performed by the Sanitary Inspectors,
has been submitted to me by Mr. A. H. Smith, Chief Sanitary
Inspector.
In previous Annual Reports attention has been drawn to the
increasing difficulty in getting essential work carried out due to the
continued rise in the cost of material, labour, etc., whilst the rents of
controlled dwellings remained stationary.
These factors still prevail to-day to even a greater extent and
has resulted in a large number of cases where it has been necessary to
apply statutory action.
