Food and Drugs Act, 1955.
(i) Proceedings for contraventions of the Food Hygiene
Regulations i.e. displaying food lower than 18 inches from the
ground and for not displaying his name and address on his stall
were taken against a street trader. Pines of £5 and £2 respectively
were imposed and £1 costs in each case.
(ii) Proceedings for similar contraventions of the Pood
Hygiene Regulations were taken against the brother of the defendant
concerned in the previous case and he was fined £5 with £1
costs on each charge.
(iii) Proceedings under Section 8 of the Act were taken
against a multiple firm of grocers for selling biscuits infested
with weevils and maggots. A fine of £20 was imposed.
(iv) Proceedings under Section 2 of the Act were taken
against a local baker for selling a loaf of bread containing
black foreign matter (lubricating grease). The firm was fined
£25 with £3. 3. 0 costs.
(v) Proceedings under Section 2 of the Act were taken
against a local retail confectioner for selling an iced sponge
cake which was mouldy. A fine of £25 with £3. 3. 0 costs was
imposed.
