unauthorised sites of varying degrees of unfitness, and including
some of the most undesirable features, from the sanitary and public
health point of view, to be found in the whole district. The Council's
scheme for a municipal caravan site continues on its faltering
career, but still exists only on paper. A modified scheme has been
agreed and tenders obtained but at the end of the year a reply was
awaited from the Ministry to the Council's application for loan
sanction.

by the Council and private developers :

Factories Act, 1937.
There are one hundred and fifty nine factories with mechanical
power and four factories without mechanical power on the Register,
with a range of products including:
Aircraft, building materials, caravans, carbon products,
cheese, chocolate, cocoa, coffee extracts, electrical transformers,
furniture, lubricating oil, optical lenses, potato
crisps, pianos, radio, radar, television, gramophone records
and gramophones, rubber, tarmacadam, and wood block
floors.
