Immunisation.
Immunisation against diphtheria and whooping cough, and
vaccination of infants against smallpox are available without cost
at the County Council's clinics. Most parents gladly take advantage
of the facilities offered, but there still remains a section who, for
various reasons, deny their children protection against these
diseases. Although there have been fewer cases of diphtheria in
the country for some years, the danger still exists and it would be
foolish to ignore it.
The Area Medical Officer, Area No. 8, has kindly supplied
figures showing immunisation and vaccination carried out in the
district during 1954 ; these are given below :
