Offices, Shops & Railway Premises Act, 1963
With each successive year this Act has been in operation
the Inspectors report a greater awareness among employers and
employees in the requirements of the Act, resulting in higher
standards of compliance.
Although the number of premises on the register remains
static from year to year (1969—2,024; 1970—2,005) it is surprising
that the turnover in pimises covered by the Act is as high as
8%, there being 168 new occupiers registered during 1970. An
interesting point to note is that while the number of premises
from the previousyear is comparable, the number of staff employed
has increased by 1385, over 50% of these being male employees.
At the end of the year 14,758 persons were employed in the 2,005 premises registered.
