Infectious Diseases.
The following list gives the number of cases which were brought to the notice of the School Medical Officer for the past three years.
1935 | 1936 | 1937 | |
Chicken-pox | 6 | 283 | 301 |
Diphtheria | 12 | 15 | 2 |
Measles | 3 | 255 | 116 |
Mumps | 44 | 3 | 96 |
Scarlet Fever | 49 | 28 | 72 |
Whooping Cough | 38 | 15 | 137 |
152 | 599 | 724 |
There was a considerable increase in the cases of
Whooping Cough, Mumps and Scarlet Fever over the previous
year, but Diphtheria with only 2 cases, fell to almost
vanishing point. There can be little doubt that this is largely
due to the excellent response by parents to the Council's
scheme for immunisation and to the part played bv head
teachers in making the scheme a success.
