was removed to hospital and recovered.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
One case of ophthalmia neonatorum was notified. It
was a mild case and recovered without any damage being
done to the infant's eyes.
Home Visiting.
During the year the health visitors made 4,811 visits
in connection with Maternity and Child Welfare work, as
compared with 4,556 in 1935.
Dental Treatment.
Expectant and nursing mothers who are in need of
dental treatment are referred by the doctor at the Centres
to the Council's dentist. Under the Council's scheme treatment
is limited to extractions and fillings, but the Voluntary
Association give assistance to necessitous mothers to enable
them to obtain dentures.
Periodical visits are made by the dentists to the Welfare
Centres for the purpose of inspecting the teeth of the children
in attendance.
The amount of work done shows a considerable increase on the previous year, and two sessions per week instead of one have been held since the 1st April, 1936.
