Brighton Outbreak.
It transpired that over the Christmas holidays, persons
from Erith had visited the Bevendean Hospital, where the
smallpox cases were temporarily isolated, either as visitors or
in connection with the County Ambulance Service, and therefore
came into contact, however remotely, with smallpox
infection.
The names and addresses of all these persons were ascertained,
and vaccination of all concerned was carried out.
They were all kept under constant supervision of the Health
Department.
In addition all medical practitioners were circularised.
The measure of control was satisfactory and no case of
smallpox occurred in the Borough as a result of the outbreak.
