Sample No. 599 Baking powder, 26.4 per cent. deficiency
in C.O.2. This commodity was not reported as adulterated,
but was found to be deficient in C.O.2 owing to lengthy storage.
The consignment of this brand of baking powder was eventually
removed from sale.
Sample No. 640. Pudding mixture. 33 per cent. deficiency
in C.O.2. This sample was found to be deficient in C.O.2. for
the same reasons as those quoted above, and similar action was
taken.
Milk. Fat content.
Statutory requirement
Milk fat 3.0 per cent. Solids, not fat, 8.5 per cent.
Average percentages for samples taken in 1946:—
Milk fat 3.6 per cent. Solids, not fat, 9.0 per cent.
F (3) b. Food Inspection and Supervision of the Food
supply.
Considerable time and attention has been devoted to the
inspection of meat and other foods in shops and stores, and the
folowing were confiscated as being unfit for human consumption:—

Chickens 12.
Total weight 2 tons, 18 cwts., 1 qr., 11 lbs., 7 ozs.
F(4). Slaughter of Animals Act.
The above Act makes the use of mechanically operated
instruments a statutory obligation. By resolution of the
Council dated 23rd May, 1938. the provisions of Section 1 of
the Act apply to sheep which are slaughtered in the district.
