B (5). MATERNITY SERVICES.
B(5)a. Maternity Home—Hainault.
The Council provides a maternity home of 7 beds, including
one isolation bed. The staff consists of a Sister-in-Charge, a
Junior Sister, and two midwives. Institutional treatment for
normal cases is provided, and during the period under review
118 maternity cases were admitted Of these 88 cases were
delivered by midwives and 30 by doctors. The average duration
of stay of these cases in the home was 13 days.
Although the Maternity Home was classified as a 1 B
Hospital under the Emergency Hospitals' Scheme, the Home
was not evacuated and the Hospital Officer for Sector 10 advised
us soon after the outbreak of hostilities that Hainault would be
allowed to continue with its normal peace-time functions.
B(5)b. Ante-natal.
The ante-natal sessions which are held on one half-day each
week at the Hainault and Bedonwell Clinics, continue to function
and as will be seen from the following table, the attendance
figures are most gratifying.
