The old Belvedere Boys' School has been entirely remodelled
and modernised, and now houses a small school of
about 120 infants, and children in Standard I.
The modernising of old school buildings has continued and
Northumberland Heath Junior and Infants' Schools have been
remodelled, provided with new and modernised cloakrooms,
nursery classrooms, central heating and hot water; electric
light has also been installed.
A nursery classroom has been provided at the Crescent
Road Infant School, by the adaptation of an existing one, and
the Junior Boys' and Junior Girls' Departments here have
been combined to form the Crescent Road Junior Mixed
School, the premises being improved and adapted for the
purpose.
Medical Inspection.
The general routine medical inspection work has been
carried out as in former years. Whenever possible, arrangements
are made for both the Head Teacher and Parent to be
present at these inspections. The practice of examining three
routine age groups has again been followed.
FINDINGS AT MEDICAL INSPECTIONS.
Malnutrition.
The year 1937 is the third year in which the new clinical
assessment laid down in Administrative Memorandum No. 124,
has been in operation, and it is interesting to compare the
figures obtained this year with last year's, and to compare our
figures with those for England and Wales.
It is, perhaps, fair to say that the main importance of
these figures is still to decide from them whether we have
yet a reliable method of assessing nutrition and when the
method has proved itself the state of nutrition of the school
child, as revealed by it, can be discussed with more confidence.
The Chief Medical Officer to the Board of Education, in
his Annual Report, has pointed out that some very unexpected
figures have been obtained due probably to the personal factor.
It is interesting to note therefore, how closely our own figures
approximate to the average figures for England and Wales.

Taking the percentages, the following table will show this:—
