B(5). Maternity Services.
B(5)a. Maternity Home—Hainault.
The Council provides a maternity home of 7 beds, including
one isolation bed. The staff consists of a Sister-in-Charge, a
Junior Sister, and two midwives. Institutional treatment for
normal cases is provided, and during the period under review
134 maternity cases were admitted. Of these 101 cases were
delivered by midwives and 33 by doctors. The average duration
of stay of these cases in the home was 13.93 days.
B(5)b. Ante-Natal Clinic.
During 1937, the ante-natal sessions were increased by the
commencement of a Weekly Clinic at the New Bedonwell Centre
which serves the Western part of the District.
The Hainault Ante-Natal Clinic still continues to serve the
needs of the more central parts of the District.
In the volume of the ante-natal work carried out at these
two clinics, although Bedonwell Clinic has only been in existence
since October, a creditable increase is again apparent.
