DIPHTHERIA
During the year only three cases of Diphtheria occurred in the
district, a decrease of three on the previous year's figure.
The three cases, none of which were fatal, occurred in children
aged 4, 10, and 14½ years.
DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION
2,111 children were immunised for the first time and 1,834
received subsequent reinforcing doses during the year.
The number of parents accepting this service for their
children is not yet sufficiently high to warrant any sense of security,
although an improvement is noted.
POLIOMYELITIS AND POLIO-ENCEPHALITIS
The epidemic of 1947 abated, and during 1948 only 4 confirmed
cases of Poliomyelitis occurred in the District.
