INFANTILE DEATHS.
The total number of deaths which occurred amongst infants
under one year, including 24 registered outside the District, and
deducting 3 of non-residents occurring in the District, was 47,
giving a death-rate of 43.27 per 1,000 births, as compared with a
death-rate of 59.00 for England and Wales, and 63.00 for the 121
County Boroughs and Great Towns (including London). The
corresponding figures for Enfield for the last four years were: 1930,
51.21; 1931, 53.50; 1932, 60.11; and 1933, 50.38.
The causes of death remain much the same as last year, Pneumonia
accounting for 8 deaths, Enteritis for 1, Congenital Malformations,
Premature Birth, Atrophy, Debility and Marasmus, etc.,
accounting for 29.
The number of deaths of illegitimate children was 3, which
gives a death-rate of 103.44 per 1,000 illegitimate infants.
