SOCIAL CONDITIONS.
The extent of unemployment may be estimated by the following figures
relating to :—
(1) the number of free dinners given to schoolchildren, and
(2) the actual figures supplied by the Divisional Finance Officer.
No. 1 is given purely on economic grounds.

The average number of children receiving meals daily was 5,556 (48.1%
of the children in school).
